Around the World: Book 1 for Violin is a beginner-friendly book that introduces 50 folk songs from countries that are often overlooked in traditional method books. Each folk song comes with lyrics and a brief history or explanation of the music’s origin, making it a rich learning experience.

🎻 Volume 1 features 50 folk songs from underrepresented countries, progressing from three-note melodies in D major to pieces using all four strings. Students will encounter major, minor, and pentatonic scales, learning different finger patterns and time signatures (4/4, 3/4, 2/4, and 6/8) along the way.

Techniques:

Starts with 3-note songs in D major, progressing to more complex songs using the G and E strings.

Introduces rhythm patterns with lyrics to enhance the melody and make learning easier.

Includes time signatures like 6/8, and introduces basic scales (major, minor, pentatonic).

Develops finger patterns such as low 2s, low 1s, and high 3s.

Features slurs, double-up bows, and string crossings.

 

How to Use This Material

📌 Introduction to the Book:

Present the "Around the World" Volume 1 book to the students. Highlight how it contains 50 carefully selected folk songs.

Explain that these songs originate from underrepresented countries, offering a unique blend of familiar and new tunes.

📌 Getting Started:

Start with the simplest three-note melodies in D major as outlined in the book.

Demonstrate the initial exercises, focusing on correct posture, bowing, and finger placement.

Encourage students to listen to recordings of the songs if available, to familiarize themselves with the tunes.

📌 Progressively Increase Complexity:

Gradually move to more complex pieces from the book as the students become comfortable.

Introduce songs that use all four strings, highlighting the progression from simple to intricate.

📌 Teaching Musical Concepts:

Educate students on major, minor, and pentatonic scales through the songs. Use visual aids to reinforce learning.

Discuss different finger patterns and how they relate to the scales being taught.
